Experience the power of cinema at International Purple Festival Goa 2024 – We Care Film Festival on Disability Issues – completed 200th venue

Step into a world where stories come alive, hearts are touched, and barriers are shattered. Welcome to the Purple International We Care Film Festival on Disability Issues in the magnificent setting of Goa.

The Purple International We Care Film Festival was organised from 8 to 13 January 2024 by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (DEPwD); Ministry of Social Welfare, Government of Goa; the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Goa in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, Delhi; the Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, Dwarka, Delhi; DRAG, Goa; the DME, Noida and Brotherhood, Delhi. The Summit was held at the INOX, Dayanand Bandodkar Marg, Campal, Panaji, Goa.

 

With over 117 films screened from India and overseas, this festival is a celebration of inclusivity, diversity, and the indomitable spirit of individuals with disabilities. From powerful documentaries to heartwarming narratives, every film will leave you inspired and enlightened.

The recently held 19th edition of the festival was nothing short of extraordinary. A grand award ceremony honoured 13 awe-inspiring filmmakers for their outstanding contributions. Distinguished guests including Shripad Naik, Minister of State for Tourism and Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of Goa, Mr. Subhash Phal Desai, Minister for Social Welfare, Government of Goa, Mr. Darrin Farrant, Director, United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, Mr Guruprasad Pawaskar, Commissioner, State Commission for Persons with Disability, Goa and Mr. Taha Haaziq, Secretary in the office of State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Goa, Dr. Ravinder Singh, Director, ICMR, Delhi, Dr. Ashu, Director, ICMR, Delhi, Dr. Sandhya Limaye, Chairpersons, CDSA, TISS, Mumbai, Mr. Ambrish Saxena, DEAN, DME, Noida, Ms. Kanika Sachdeva, Principal, DPS, Rohini, Delhi, Ms. Poonam Talwar, Asst. Professor, SGT University and Mr. Satish Kapoor, Founding President, Brotherhood and GIEN, graced the occasion with their presence.

But it wasn’t just about dignitaries; our festival welcomed talents from around the world. A remarkable filmmaker from Kazakhstan and a talented actor with Down Syndrome named Marta were among those who captivated audiences with their awe-inspiring creations.

As an integral part of the International Purple Festival 2024 in Goa, this film extravaganza attracted a staggering audience of 15,000 people who were moved by these powerful stories that transcend boundaries.
